El Paso - Hot hot hot!!!

Day 4 - Wednesday, June 20th

Apparently, I've gained a little too much confidence on my mountain bike "the BEAST", and I suggested this trail for our morning ride.

Curtis and I rode our bikes to the end of Redd Road to this trail, which literally bikes straight up the mountain all the way to Transmountain Road.  We left a little later today...7:00, so by the tile we made it to the trail, Curtis was all most out of water.  We thought we'd fill up at the "H2O" places on the map.  Well, there was no water.....those "H2O" labels are for the water tanks.  It was TOUGH....and scary!  Lots of giant rocks, all unpacked dirt, and cactus!  I almost fell straight into a prickly pear cactus, but was able to catch myself 2 inches away.....Curtis said he saw the cactus shift and move, so I'm glad one of my tires didn't go flat.

It took us 3 miles to get to the trail, so we decided we had time to ride 2 miles up, since we'd have to do an up and back.  It just got tougher and tougher the higher we went.  We made it our 2 miles!!!  By this point, it was 95 and Curtis was completely out of water, and I was getting low.

Yes, that little dirt single track in the desert, that's our trail!  We made it up into the green on the map where all the trails come winding together, apparently, all the signs have been destroyed, but the meeting place still stands.

We turned around and immediately started riding DOWN the mountain.  I don't know which was harder, riding up it or down it!  Very scary with all the rocks on the trail and unpacked dirt.

This was the clearest most open point to the trail.  We made it back down!!!  I was so proud of myself!

After our treterous bike ride, we showered, and loaded up the car for the local $1.00 kids movie at the Cinemark, "Horton Hears a Who".  This was Carson's first movie . . . .

If you have ever met Carson, I'm sure you can guess how successful this was.  He sat for oh....5 minutes, then started jumping on the chair and running around.  You know the game.....Curtis and I had to get up and take him out about 10 times until he finally fell asleep in Curtiss's lap the last 20 minutes.  Cole, on the other hand LOVED it!  We met Grandma Mary for lunch, then returned home for naps.  Well, the nap was for the boys, but they were wound up like tops . . . . It didn't happen . . . Within the hour, Carson had stripped down naked and they were chasing each other around the house . . . . Oh, a life with boys.  So we called up Uncle Steve and Aunt Christine to see if we could get some energy out and take them swimming again.

It worked!  Even Carson jumped off his famous "step dwelling" spot a little bit.  They boys swam and swam for an hour and a half....SUCCESS!!!  We came back, fixed dinner, and they wanted to ride bikes....by this time. It was 7:00 at night and 102 degrees.  We barely made it around the block one time, and they were pooped!

They were both asleep before 9:00!!!  I'm excited to see how we're going to wear the out tomorrow!
