Today turned out to be the most wonderful, unexpected day yet! It started with a 4:00 am....BEEP, BEEP, BEEP! The alarm goes off, and we're up. We had a few things on the list to do before leaving the condo. By 4:45 am, we were all loaded up and driving, only 600 miles today. We headed straight north to LA with our fingers crossed. We hit a little congestion by the Airport, but were able to make it through to the north side in just under 3 hours....RECORD TIMING!!!! Now we'll have some time to spend at the Piers in San Francisco before going to Uncle Bert's house in Healdsburg.
We hit a McDonalds in Santa Clarita on the North side of LA for some playtime and we were off again. We decided to take I5 up California instead of 101. It's not as scenic, but it would hopefully allow for a little time in the Bay Area, and we could arrive at Uncle Bert's sooner. Boy were we happy we did!!!!
We pulled up to the cable car stop at 2:00 with the van and Cole thought he'd died and gone to heaven.
Ive never traveled to the Bay Area, and I absolutely love it here! I felt like I was inside Mr. Rogers Neighborhood with all the beautiful historic houses, cable cars, and trolley cars. We began our quest to count all the trolley cars we could find. We had snacked on all the fruit we brought from San Diego, so we were pretty hungry by this time. We walked the piers to the Tarantino's Fishermans' Wharf, and they had a street side....PERFECT!!!!
Yum!!!! Now I was in heaven! This girl LOVES her breadbowls....when I was pregnant with Cole in the middle of summer, all I craved was soup in a breadbowl, even if it was over 100 degrees, I couldn't get enough!
This beautiful weather is such a nice change from Texas, I loved the soft drizzle on my face. After chowing down, we were off again to Pier 39 in search of sea lions with about 1000 puddle jumps on our way.
By the time we arrived at Pier 39 the boys were pretty tired after their long travels and puddle jumps.
We traded off carrying them back to the minivan. The rain rejuvenated me because I had energy for hours. When we arrived back to the car, I looked to the sky and saw the Ghiradelli Chocolate Factory.....YUM!!!!
We couldn't pass up Ghiradelli chocolate on the Golden Gate National Park, right? We split a Twilight Dark 72% Cacao chocolate bar, and the boys loved it! By this time we had seen about 10 signs of companies saying "Bike the Golden Gate Bridge". Who knew you could bike it?! I decided we HAD to do it! We got back in the car to check it out, and little man, Carson, fell asleep in 30 seconds. Cole was so tired, too, so we knew they couldn't make it across the 2 mile bridge and back to the car in the rain. BUT, I thought, "if you can ride it, then you can also RUN it!" YES!!!!!
Curtis dropped me off at the lookout point .3 miles away from the bridge and promised to meet me on the other side.
Oh my goodness, this was the most exhilarating feeling! I was running....no sprinting in the rain across the Golden Gate Bridge!
My run started at 4:01 pm, exactly 12 hours after my alarm had gone off, and I could have run for miles! It was amazing!!!
What an amazing view of the bay and Alcatrez!
I met Curtis on the other side where the boys were both asleep and he had time to drink a beer and enjoy the view, then we were off to Uncle Bert's house.
We pulled up at 6:00 to Healdsburg and the most amazing house on a vineyard. Oh my goodness.....BREATHTAKING!!!!!!!
Uncle Bert had the most wonderful happy hour set out for us and the boys...cheese and crackers, Chex mix, salted almonds, bananas, and the best bottle of white blend I've ever had! Perfect!!!! We went through a bottle ....or two, then headed off to the local pizza place for dinner....again....perfect! The boys filled their tummy while Curtis and I shared a "Rose pizza" with olive oil, fresh sliced tomatoes, mozzarella, artichokes, and oregano! Yum!!!! We came back to the house for some more vino after the boys went to bed. At 10:00 one of the night visitors came into the main house asking for a snack, and we knew that was our call to call it a night.
This turned out to be the most spectacular of days!!!! Tomorrow, were up by 7:00 for breakfast. This is the most beautiful countryside I've ever seen!
