Day 52: Ok, yesterday we headed 3 hours north on a dirt road past Crested Butte to find a campsite north of Gothic. We show up...no spots, so we drove the hour back south on the bumpy dirt road to find another campsite outside of South Crested Butte, up another dirt road to Cement Creek Campground in the National Forest. We found a site, stepped outside and were swarmed with biting black flies....gross! It was unbearable, so we drive back up to Crested Butte to find the Laundrymat. We returned 2 hours later to more flies and mosquitos. I tried to serve dinner, but flies were everywhere. We ran inside to make a table out of our Casita and things started going better until I went into the truck to get Cole's Wimpy Kid book to read and saw a MOUSE IN THE TRUCK!!!!!!! GROOOOOOOOOSS!!!!!! I screamed and the four of us each took a flashlight and shovel and stood by a door to search for the mouse. Two hours of emptying, banging, screaming, and searching I looked and saw TWO MICE!!!!!!!!!!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! 80,000 four letter words shot out of my mouth at that point. By now, it was 10:30 pm and there was nothing we could do. We left the truck doors open in hopes they would leave and went to bed...sealing all windows shut in the Casita! Everyone had nightmares of mice...We woke up and there was a fox wandering in our campsite. Curtis's famous quote of the morning, "I've hit my maximum of too deep woods here." We packed up our Truck, hitched up, and left. This is the 2nd campsite we've bailed on in two nights....we're done with the deep woods. On to Fun Valley 3 days early with an empty truck can filled with sticky mouse traps under all our seats.
