Grandpa was so excited to see the boys, and we were counting down the miles to see him! It only took us 3500 miles to get here, and he had a perfect parking spot for us...right on his front lawn!
We relaxed around the house all evening. Tomorrow, Grandpa has big plans for us! We are so excited to be here!!!!
Day 25: Our morning began with a 4:45 am wake up call from Uncle Dave with a honk from his Buick every 5 minutes. Dave is in a bit of a manic swing of his cycle....I'll just leave it at that....😳
Lucky for us, we planned out short stay in Albany to overlap the famous "East Albany Lions Club Lumberjack Breakfast"!!! All you can eat pancakes, sausage, and eggs at a Timber Linn Park! My Grandpa and a few of his buddies started this breakfast back in 1954 to raise money for school children needing glasses and has been going every 4th of July Weekend ever since.
I have fond memories of going to the Lumberjack Breakfast as a little girl. We couldn't wait!!!! And....the boys LOVE hot cakes!!!!
We had our fill of yummy breakfast while the boys played at the park and Grandpa got to say hi to all his old buddies.
Mr. Cole was a big helper with Great-Grandpa. After breakfast, we drove to Grandma's resting place in Waverly Jewish Cemetery to show the boys her beautiful gravestone.
The cemetery is just down the street, so Grandpa can visit her whenever he wants.
The boys were ready to play and explore the fairy tale stories...even Uncle Dave decided to join us! I loved Hansel and Gretel House the best!!!
We roamed through the trees and fairy tale stories, then hit the rides....Haunted House was first on the list, of course!
We hit the Kiddie Rides next...
By the time we arrived at Aunt Mary's, Grandpa's oxygen was running low, so it was only a short visit. Grandpa has become pretty dependent on his oxygen. He has to wear it 100% of the time due to his COPD. We are so thankful for every minute we get to spend with him. We arrived back in Albany, hit Izzy's for an early dinner and we're all in bed by 7:00 pm. Tomorrow, we relax at the house and have a surprise visit!!!!
Day 26: We slept in a bit after yesterday's big day, then we set off for Albany First United Methodist Church for Sunday Service. It was so great to see Pastor Kate again. She did such a wonderful job at Grandma's memorial service in 2013. They were all very excited to see Grandpa, too. Since he isn't driving anymore it is hard for him to get to church....unless Uncle Dave drives him....can't rely on him for much. Anyways...we had a wonderful service and then the boys played on the playground a bit while we talked to the people in Fellowship Hall. Then we returned to relax before the Thomases arrived!
We were all so excited to see them!!! The boys had been cooped up in the house for a couple of days so they were pretty wound up when they arrived....my two are much better out in the wild. 😊.
We talked and played and celebrated being together! The boys voted that Faith gets to come to the floathousebto play!
She's the best babysitter ever!
Grandpa and Aunt Julie had some private time to talk....amidst the constant jabber of Uncle Dave.
Too soon it was time for them to return to Eugene, and it was time for us to pack the Tic-Tac once more. Tomorrow is the 4th of July, and we're on our way to the Floathouse. Today, I am so thankful for our time with Grandpa. These are memories we will treasure forever.
