Flaming Gorge Dam Reservior

Day 44:  We pulled out of our site in Colter's Bay before the neighbors were up and early enough to be the first ones in the showers!  BONUS!!!  We hit the beautiful lookout on the Snake River and were on our way.

What we thought was 281 short miles turned into 8 hour drive adding 100 miles of rerouting due to a wildfire south of Jackson.  Ugh!  Again, we made the best of it, and pulled up to our campsite at Mustang Ridge in the Flaming Gorge Dam Rec Area after 5:30 pm.  Just enough time to make dinner, hike down to the lake, and crash.

Yes, we found another beautiful place!

Day 45:  We set off for Jr. Ranger Badge #12 at Red Canyon.

The weather started drizzling, so we headed back to the Casita for naps to wait out the weather then hit the Sunny Cove Swim Area to play.

Finally.....warm water!

Day 46:  We hit the swim hole early today!

Apparently, our secluded swim cove is the only one on the 91 mile reservoir lake, so we shared it with about 100 other people...we made the most of it.  Soon enough, the early afternoon thunder clouds rolled in and it was time for us to go in.  Others "waited out the storm", but us Texans know to stay way the hell away from water when there's thunderstorms around.  We learned later that a 16 year old girl was electrocuted on a jet ski in the north side of Flaming Gorge from the storm....sad....

After our relaxation, we set off for an evening hike down the canyon.

Too soon it was time for our evening card game of Up and Down the River and bed.  What a wonderfully relaxing day!
