Onward to the Floathouse

Day 16 - Monday, July 1st

Thankfully, Curtis and I are pretty early risers because my alarm was scheduled to go off at 5:00 am, but I was up well before my alarm.  We were loaded up, have big hugs to Great Grandpa and kisses to Great Grandpa and we were driving again.  This was a very sad goodbye because it will most likely be the last time we see Great Grandma.  She is very frail and her breathing is so labored. Great Grandpa has lost about 40 lbs since we saw him last year, too.  His whole purpose in his mind is to care for her, and it is so hard on him.  He is an amazing care giver for her, and you can tell she is so happy being in her home, but it is also taking a major toll on his health.  I just pray every night the God takes them to heaven together....that's how it should be......

So after some sad goodbyes, we were off again for our next 500 mile drive to Coeur d'Alene.  We were thankfully on the road by 5:45, so we whizzed through Portland on a Monday morning by 7:00, and were arrived to Multinomah (sp?) Falls before 8:00.  I figure it's been 20 years since we've taken this drive across Oregon and Washington.  When I was a little girl, we used to drive it all the time visiting between my two grandparents in Oregon and Idaho.  It's probably been at least 25 years since we visited the falls, and boy were they beautiful!!!

My mom really enjoyed the time with the boys, and my Dad requested a picture of Mom at the falls by herself....well, Cole snuck into the pic, but he's pretty cute.  ☺

We biked up to the top of the bridge to get a closer look.

Cole absolutely loved passing under the tunnel and all the old train tracks.  This bridge was made in 1907, and had an old wooden sign labeling all the nearest cities by train.....fascinating!

We stopped by the potties and were off again.  I don't remember the drive across because I was always preoccupied with hitting my sisters or sleeping, but it was the most beautiful drive across the Columbia River.  Highway 84 winds down the river and train track all the way to Washington.  So beautiful!!!!

After we passed into Washington, we stopped at the local Mercantile for amazing sandwiches and salsa, and were on the road....AGAIN....

We loaded up for groceries in Spokane, and amazingly fit it all in our minivan.

We unloaded the groceries in the boat and pulled up to floathouse at 4:56 pm....you know what that means....

It took 3500 miles to get here!  Curtis and I have been talking about driving to Idaho for years, and we actually did it....with a 2 year old and 5 year old!  Cole and Carson are road tripping experts!!!!

We were jumping in the water in less than 5 minutes!  It's hot...100 degrees!!!  The water felt amazing!  We're going to have the best 4th of July at the lake ever, and I cannot wait to all my sisters and their families show up!

Day 17 - Tuesday, July 2nd

Wow, the sun rises early here.  The sunrise started at 4:00 am, and I was up.  It was such a beautifully pink sunrise with the quarter moon shining in the sky.

I went for a nice 5 mile run at 5:00 am run while Curtis rode.  If you've ever been to the floathouse, you know the bit.....a lot of this....

And this....

And this....

And this....

Then, after naps, more swimming....

And time for happy hour!

I love it here!!!!

Tomorrow, more swimming, fishing, and napping!

Day 18 - Wednesday, July 3rd

Curtis and I woke for a 16 mile bike ride up the Trail of the Coeur d'Alenes to Harrison.  We stopped at One Shot Charlie's for pictures....aah, memories...

Then we hit The Tin Cup for coffee and homemade asparagus quische.  After that, we turned back to ride back to the floathouse.  It was a beautiful morning.

We returned to a very sick Grandma, so we went for a long nature walk to the playground to give her some quiet time.

I just love it here!

We played for a while then returned for lunch and naps.  Dick and Sharon Adams showed up just in time for lunch, and Dick played with the kids all afternoon in the water....the water temperature is warmer than its been in years!  He really gave all the parents a much needed break!

We had happy hour and dinner, then loaded up the boat to go see the Conkling fireworks!  Dad gave a big lecture about riding in the boat at night.

The fireworks were beautiful, but Cardom didn't quite make it through.

Happy 3rd/4th of July!!!
