And....we're off!

Day 1 - up at 5:00 am, showered, dishes done, hot water drained, water shut off, load up the kids, out the door by 6:15 am!  It's a very tight squeeze on our 3rd pad, but thankfully, Curtis is an awesome Parker!

Carson woke up and shouted, "Yay!!!!  Summer!!!!" Destination #1: Balmorhea State Park and the worlds largest swimming pool.

500 miles and 10 hours later we pulled up to Balmorhea State Park and the worlds largest natural swimming pool!

I bet you were expecting an awesome picture of Cole and Carson jumping off the high dive, right?!  Alas....we were greeted by a ranger at the entrance stating a lightning strike had started a fire in the park and everyone had to evacuate.  The entire state park was closed.  Boo!!!!!  We backtracked to Interstate 10 and headed for El Paso.  Suddenly, our 500 mile drive has now turned into a 700 mile drive.  Everyone was starving and we almost ran out of gas....in the desert of Van Horn.

FYI...our awesome Chevy Silverado only shows "LOW" on the mileage when you are under 20 miles left in the tank.  Praise Jesus, we putted and sputtered into the Van Horn Loves, filled up, hit the McDonalds, and set off again for Grandma Mary and Grandpa Stan's House.  This wasn't quite the way we wanted to kick off our summer trip, but at least we get an extra full day in El Paso.

14 hours later we were greeted with big smiles by Grandma and Grandpa!  All is well!
