Spring Break Jaunt - Stop 1: NOLA

Day 1 - I think only the Schettler family would consider a 2,000 mile trip with 3 stops a Jaunt, but here we go!  We loaded up the "Big Gray Rolling Turd" AKA 2004 Honda Odyssey, departed at 5:00 am, picked up Grandma, and headed for NOLA.  We packed a quick lunch of quinoa and lunchables for our stop at the beautiful park outside of Opalousas.  The boys played frisbee and football while we soaked up the beautiful Spring Break sun.

We pulled into Bill and Sarah's house at 3:00 pm, and immediately got to work putting together Sabrina's new swing set in the back yard.  The boys were so happy to play with their cousin.

We had exactly two night to show Mom the BEST of NOLA and wanted to soak up every second....so...of course, we chose New Orleans Seafood and Hamburber to watch the trolley trains for dinner.  Mom had her first taste of NOLA Charbroiled Oysters....YUM!!!!

Yes, these are very happy Schettler boys!

Day 2 - We woke up at Bill and Sarah's beautiful house ready to tackle our one full day in New Orleans.  This was Mom's first visit to NOLA, so we wanted to show her the best of the best!  First stop....walk along the levee at the French Quarter.

It's quite possible we caught the best weather day of the year!  We took our beautiful walk down to the French Quarter. .....And Cafe Du Monde for beignets, Cafe Ole, and super sugary hot chocolate for breakfast.   They were a hit!!!! We toured the Basilica before 11:00 am Mass. Cole loved playing with his sweet cousin, Sabrina. We then drove back to the house for a quick lunch picked up Uncle Bill and headed to the Audubon Zoo.  We arrived to Soulfest And a very crowded zoo.  We road the train.... The beautiful carousel.... We loved seeing all the animals, but the boy's favorite part was climbing on the famous Climbing Tree.

We thought we wore the kids out, but Carson was ready to go for two more hours of soccer in the yard.  That boy had endless energy!

We ended the day with an amazing home cooked feast of fresh caught drum fish!  Yum!!!!

Our trip to New Orleans was so fast and we treasure every second we were able to spend with our family.  We love them so much!!!  Tomorrow, we're up and atom at 5:00 am to head to Destin!!!
