Humboldt Redwoods State Park

Day 17 - I was more than ready to leave Lake Tahoe.  Our campsite was nice and the elderly Camp Hosts did everything they could to keep only registered guests in, but one could step over the knee high fence to get in or out.  It was nice to be in a city for a couple of days so I didn't have to cook, but I was ready to get back into nature.  We pulled our Casita out by 7:30 am.  Fast forward 370 miles and 8 hours and we were turning on The Avenue of the Giants!!!

The Humboldt Redwoods Visitor Center was right next to our campground, so we unloaded and made it just in time for the 3:30 Jr. Ranger Program.  The boys learned all about the Redwoods and the parts of a tree....middle wood, xylem, phloem, bark.

The boys were sworn as California State Park Jr. Rangers, and we headed for our incredible campsite nested in the Redwoods.

Many of the Giants were cut down in this area...very sad...the do make exploring fun, though.

We made a yummy dinner of bacon wrapped steak, skillet potatoes, salad, and smores, and played a few intense games of Uno.  Today I am thankful for nature and our beautiful Earth.
