We are so excited that Grandma Becki is joining us on the road trip fun! This is her first travel trailer trip with us, and I’m sure it won’t be her last! Mr. Carson is completely attached to Grandma and is in HEAVEN!
We pulled up to Rio Grande Village Campground 600 miles and 11 hours later just in time for happy hour!
We were super thankful for Chris’s world famous chili for dinner!
Day 2: We slept 10 hours?!?!?! This is what I’m talking about! We started with a leisurely breakfast of Texas Waffles, Sausage, and fruit.
This was our day to relax around Rio Grande Village. We started with a hike to the Rio Grande River where we found the fattest Road Runner we’ve ever seen?!
Half a mile later, we were at the river.
We ended the day with a hike to the Hot Springs.
With beautiful petroglyphs.....
And...WAY too many people in the little Hot Spring.
It didn’t stop us from putting our feet on for a soak....
We finished the day with another awesome Happy Hour of Bella “Big River Ranch” on the “Big River” nd Pack 1260 Recipe Dutch oven lasagna!
Day 3: We started our day with a big breakfast of cinnamon rolls, bacon, and Cribbage!
After the game finished, we set off for our excursion of the day.....Balanced Rock! The hardest part of this hike was getting to the trail head. 8 miles up a very windy dirt road. Once there we had a nice 1.25 mile hike up to the Balanced Rock!
Even Grandma made it to the top! She’s one tough gal!
What a sight?!
These boys love to climb!
Where’s Waldo....I mean Cole?
We started our hike back down the mountain, ready for our packed lunch.
We then headed up to the Chisos Mountains for Junior Ranger badges...I think this makes number 44 in Jr. Ranger Badges for the boys. They’re getting quite a collection. Interesting fact, the Chisos Mountains were once active volcanoes?!?! The campground in the mountain is actually in the old caldera.
After visiting the caldera in Chisos Mountains, we headed back down to the Fossil Discovery Center.
They boys were getting a little pooped, but wanted one last hike up the hill for a sunset view on the beautiful Bosquillas Canyon.
Breathtaking!
We finished the day with one more filling Dutch oven meal of “Dutch Oven Sprite Chicken” and said good night. Tomorrow we head to El Paso for Thanksgiving Fun with the Schettlers. Good night, Big Bend!
Day 4: We got a little adventurous on our drive to El Paso and voted to drive the windy road through Terlingua Ghost Town and Big Bend State Park instead of the boring drive back up to I10.
This crazy, windy road was like driving on Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride, but the view of the Rio Grande and Mexican Cliffs was so worth it!
7 hours later....and lots of Bugles....
we made it to El Paso!!!!! Thanksgiving can now begin!!!!
Day 5: We’ll call this RELAXATION day! Filled with bike riding....
Trumpet time....
And BB target training....Cole hit 5 in a row!
Day 6: Happy Thanksgiving!!!
Day 7: The boys had been waiting all week to visit White Sands, and this was their lucky day! We started with an amazing lunch at La Posta in Old Mesilla and stop and the Nambe store.
After our fill of Mexican food, we headed up to Aguirre Springs National Monument and the Organ Mountains.
Then on to White Sands National Monument.
We love this place!!!! It’s usually too hot to visit in June, so we were excited to be able to go in the beautiful November temperatures.
The boys played and played!
Too soon, the sun was setting and it was time to head back to EP, but not before one last stop for Mexican (get the theme?) at the 70th Anniversary of La Rivera and $2 tacos, tequila, and Tecate night!
This guy with the taco head was super excited about the party!
After our fill we headed back to the house. Tomorrow we start the 700 mile trek back to Frisco. We’re making a pit stop in our old stomping ground in Midland to see our old family friends the Eustace’s. 💗
We are so thankful for our fabulous week of family and friends! Happy Thanksgiving!
