Fun Valley

Day 50-56:  The boys were so happy to pull into our beloved Fun Valley.

The Schettler's are newbies to Fun Valley because we've only been coming here for 3 summers.  Everyone we talk to from the 7 year olds to the 60 year olds when asked how many summers they've been to Fun Valley the response every time is, "My whole life!"  Or "I've been coming since I was your boys age!"  It truly is a little kid's paradise....Where they can fish, play, hike, explore, and ride bikes freely in a safe environment.  So that's exactly what we did for a week.

Carson and Cole have played with the same boys for all 3 years we've visited because people choose their weeks and come back during the same time year after year.  We'll call them the CnK Buddies...Cole, Colten, Koltyn, Caiden, and Carson!  They were inseparable from sun up to sun down!

The boys fished and fished....especially Carson!  He'd watch the people fishing around our pond and whenever someone caught something he would immediately go over and fish next to them or watch them.  He's become quite a fisherman!

Mommy even caught a few!  Between us in one day we caught 10 trout!

We had a family of ducks that lived right next to our camper as well.

Cole spent his days riding his bike!  All day!!!

The boys also learned how to play pool this summer.

They realized their daily allotted $2.00 in quarters goes a lot further with a game of pool than a video game, so Cole taught the all the CnK Buddies how to play pool, too.  He picked it up fast and has great form!

The boys decided they want to save up for a pool table in their bedroom.

We had a big surprise the morning of our last day in Fun Valley!  Carson lost his front snaggle tooth that's been hanging on all summer!

Carson is now READY for 1st grade!  He was told the tooth fairy brings double the goods if he looses his tooth when camping because she has to travel so far to find him, so we'll see what she brings him!

Cole and his buddy Koltyn decided to use their savings on matching Army pocket knives.  Good thing Cole earned his Whittling Chip in Scouts this year.  He is always carrying it with him.

And, we spent our last day the Fun Valley way.....fishing and talking to our friends Gary and Teri!  Thanks for letting us borrow your awesome net again this summer, Gary!

We loved every minute at FunValley!  Next summer, we're planning to start and end our summer trip at Fun Valley!  We missed the week that our Plains Circle Culdesac Crew came to FV, so hopefully next summer we'll be able to spend a week with them as well!

When we woke up on driving day, Carson was so excited to see what the Tooth Fairy left him....that money burned a hole in his pocket the whole way back to Frisco.

By 7:45 am we were all hitched up and said goodbye to the beloved Fun Valley.  We were sad to go, but knew we'd be back!  Same time, same place next summer!

We planned one final Junior Ranger Badge stop on our trip back to Frisco at Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve.

The boys earned their badge at the very nice Visitor Center then we set off for the Dunes.  We knew we couldn't stay long due to the 750 mile drive ahead of us, but we will definitely return next year for a day trip during our stay at Fun Valley with a dune sled in tow!

15.5 hours and 6,965 miles later, we pulled up to our cozy home in Frisco ready to start a new 2017-2018 school year and start planning summer 2018!  Life is good!
