Back to the trip....we woke up after or long day of Pirate Party, King Conch, and Derailers, hitched up the trailer and went out for one final afternoon at the Floathouse.
Too soon it was time for us to leave, so we said our goodbyes to the cousins and set off on the long road south. We sure are going to miss them.
Fast-forward 250 miles later, we hit the local Fuddruckers in Missoula for tasty burgers, Huckleberry Milkshakes, and $4.00 pitchers of local craft brews! They even had an arcade in the restaurant?!?! Everyone wins! Put this location down for the memory books for next year! After dinner we took the Scenic Route on Highway 1 through Phillipsburg and found a beautiful National Forest Campground nestled on the outskirts of Georgetown Lake. Rest easy, we’ve got another full day of driving tomorrow.
Day 36: We decided to split the 1,200 miles back to Fun Valley into 3 days. We only had 550 miles of driving this day, so we slept in, Curtis and I went for a morning run around the campground, made a big breakfast, and set off on our merry way south. We ended up staying in a Walmart parking lot in Price, Utah, south of Salt Lake City. Super exciting...NOT!
Day 37: We didn’t get mugged in the local Walmart parking lot, so that’s a plus. We stocked up on groceries and set off for our final 350 miles back to Fun Valley. Lots of slow construction, mountain passes, and slow roads later, we pulled up into Pagosa Springs Brewery for lunch before our final stretch over Wolf Creek Pass. Yes, Curtis and I split the Beer Battered Salmon Fish and Chips and topped it off with a Pagosa IPA! If you’re (talking to the 2 people that actually read this blog) ever in Pagosa Springs, you most visit the Pagosa Springs Brewery on the Westside Of Town. The Salmon Fish and Chips are TO DIE FOR!
Back to the drive....we pulled up to Fun Valley 1,200 miles and 3 days later ready to relax and rejuvenate in our old backasswards site #751. No one ever says at this site because hookups are on the front, so you need 30 feet of sewer line plus an amazing backerupper (Curtis) to get on the site, but once you’re set, it’s perfect!
Yep....backasswards site....it only took us 20 tries and a full hour, but we got her set! 4 more relaxing days in FV!
Day 38-40: Aaaah, back on Fun Valley time.....fishing, Reading, napping, card playing, and Horn/bugling practice....in no particular order.
We got to see then stock the pond, then Carson was set! Trout for dinner!!!
We also found our specially made sign for our beloved Plains Circle Crew! 💗
Three days later, we spent a day in Creede, dreamed about owning a cabin here, and it was time to go, but not before one last tradition. Our final day in FV before heading back to the reality of Frisco, we spend the afternoon tubing down the Rio Grande that runs through Fun Valley! The river was SUPER cold, but so much fun! This is what summer’s all about!
3 trips later, we were whipped, so we headed back to the camper, played one more round of pool, and packed up.
Tomorrow, we set off for our final 742 mile drive back to Frisco. This summer has been amazing and we cannot wait to see what the future has for the Schettler Family!
Goodnight, Fun Valley, Goodnight....
