By the time we were hooked up and set up our beloved Plains Circle Crew arrived back from their day in Creede, Colorado.
We have the best neighbors in the whole world! Imagine picking up your favorite neighborhood families and transporting them back to the 1950s where children ride bikes all day, explore, hike, and play all day......where there are no electronics, no tv, and everyone is safe. Yes, that’s Fun Valley Family Resort. Between our 4 houses on Plains Circle plus quite a few extended family and friends we totaled 26 people, 13 of them “kids”. And the best part?! It doesn’t matter if your “kid” is 23 or 4, they all play together and include each other. That’s our Plains Circle Crew. 💗
Yep, we’re all staying in travel trailers! We played, hiked, rode bikes, fished....relaxed....all day!
Curtis, Tyler, Blake and I turned around after the first mile straight up the mountain on this Rio Grande Forest Hike, but the other hard core hikers....Todd, Zluke, and Ashlyn made it all the way to the peak!
The best part of Fun Valley......the weather! Fun Valley is on the Eastside of Wolf Creek Pass at 8500 ft elevation, so the temperatures range from 50-80 degrees. Oh, and it’s BEAUTIFUL!!!
The boys were in absolute heaven. They whittled, fished, and played outside from sun up to sun down.
The day before “The Crew” left to take the 740 mile drive back to Frisco we all headed over the pass to Pagosa where we explored the town and hit the local Pagosa Brewery and Grill for lunch.
We even made our first stop at the Continental Divide.
Last summer was dubbed the summer of fire and volcanoes, and we’ll call 2018 “The Great Divide”! We are planning to zigzag up the Continental Divide from El Paso all the way up to Glacier NP in Canada! Im going to see how many pics we can get along the way crossing the Continental Divide. We ended our trip with a hike up Treasure Falls.
We have loved this area of Colorado since our first trip to ski at Wolf Creek in Pagosa Springs with the Hudec’s back in 2014 just after Curtis was diagnosed with cancer. Who knew we would return to this same area every summer? God sure is good, and has a plan for us. 💗 We are so excited to return to Pagosa Springs with the whole Veal/Hudec crew over Spring Break to ski Wolf Creek! We have passed this Treasure Falls countless times when the waterfall was frozen over and we were so excited to get the chance to hike it!
Carson in his rarest of forms.....
We returned to Fun Valley and said goodbye to “The Plains Circle Crew” until we pull back in on August 1st.
Four days later we headed north to Rocky Mountain National Park and Grand Lake. Who knows what the distant future has in store for the Schettlers, but maybe one day, we could make South Fork our home. We love you, Fun Valley! Until next summer!
