Fun Valley

Day 47 - Up and atom!  We loaded up the truck and said "goodbye" to Grand Canyon.  Only 415 miles to Fun Valley.  10 hours later, we arrived!  We ate dinner, checked in, and had a nice visit with Terri and Gary, our Frisco neighbors parents.  They are so fortunate to live at Fun Valley from May to September.  We love the Edwards family, and they were the ones that told us about Fun Valley.  I'm so glad they did!  I hope Curtis and I will be able to take our Casita here when we're in our 60s and live for 4 months in the Mountains.

Day 48 - After our drive, we were ready to explore this beautiful Fun Valley Family Resort.  Terri and Gary surprised us with yummy apple and peach fried pies from the Menonite Bakery.....YUM!!!!!  We got fishing passes for the boys and set off to get our dinner.

It's absolutely beautiful here!  Maybe I'm jaded because north Texas is UGLY....however, we do have fantastic sunsets in Texas.  It just makes every other place seem more beautiful that the previous.

We were super excited because the cafe was offering All You Can Eat Taco Bar for lunch....YES!!!!!  We were also counting down the seconds until Grandma Mary, Grandpa Stan, and Miss Cookie arrived!  They pulled in just after naps!  The boys were so happy to see their Grandma and Grandpa, and especially their puppy.

I cooked a tasty BBQ chicken dinner, and we relaxed around the beautiful site with Stan and Mary for the evening.  Yes, the high was 83 and the low was 48 degrees.  We are in heaven!

Day 49 - We woke up to All You Can Eat Pancake Breakfast at the Fun Valley cafe, then hit the fishing.  These boys were determined to catch some of that trout.  We found a little pond tucked back in the trees and guess what?!  We caught a fish!!!

Lunch is served!  We fished a little longer, then went back to the Casita to clean our fish.  I shoved A LOT of potatoes, green peppers, and onions into that little guy, packed him in a foil packet, cooked a giant pot of rice, and lunch was served.  We split that little fish 4 ways....everyone got a taste, and boy was it good!  Carson loved seeing Curtis clean the trout and have us prepare it for lunch.  😉

After lunch, we laid down for naps, then set off for chicken dinner at the cafe with Stan and Mary.  These boys are in heaven.

We finished our fun day with paddle boats!

We had paddle boat races and Cole and I won!  We love Fun Valley!

Day 50 - What?!?!  50 days on vacation?  How did that happen?! It is quite chilly in the mornings here before the sun peaks over Wolf Creek Pass.

I set off for an early morning run before we got our day going, then it was time for more fishing and play.  The best part of Fun Valley is you ride your bikes everywhere!  We didn't have to get in the car once!  That makes for some happy boys!

We saw some people floating down the Rio Grande River that runs through Fun Valley.  Oh yes, this is happening!

Growing up, my family would drive to New Braunsfeld every August around my sister Laura's birthday and float the river. It was a sort of last "Hurrah" before going back to the grind of school.  Yes, my summer is now complete.

We loved it so much we floated it twice!

All I needed was a cooler tube and a can of Cheese Ballz!  We hit the showers, then at dinner we saw a trailer and speakers. Guess what?!?!  Thursday night is Street Dance Night!!!!  Oh yes!  We all had a evening ice cream stop at the Snack Shack, put down the tailgate, and danced!  We danced the two step with both boys....Cole is getting to be a pretty good dancer....and all the favorites from the Corbell Music classroom....cha cha slide, electric slide, boot scoot boogie, happy..everything.  We ended our dance break with the boys running and jumping to "You've Got to Move It, Move It".  So much fun!  Before we knew it, it was 9:00  PM, and we were exhausted.  We headed back to the Casita for a late night popcorn snack on the stove and hit the hay.

Day 51 - I swear thin Fun Valley place is magical because Carson had been having terrible night terrors and waking up several times a night the past few weeks.  Since arriving to Fun Valley he has been sleeping like an angel every night...all night!  That makes for a rested Mommy and Daddy.

Unfortunately, this was our last day at Fun Valley.  Next summer we will definitely plan more time here.  We planned to live this day to the fullest!  I went fishing with the boys while Curtis, Stan, and Mary hit the Cowboy Breakfast at the cafe, then it was time for Fun Valley Mini Golf.

We have some pretty good mini golfers on our hands.  Stan and Mary relaxed in the sun.

The boys had quite a few two and three putts....maybe golf will be their game.  Stan decided to join the fun, and he's quite a good putter as well!

After mini golf, we headed back to the Casita for leftovers and naps.  Stan and Mary were very patient with our constant shaninagans.  We had our camping set up down to a T after camping for 50 nights, but they had to stay in one of the nasty old rental trailer.

We found out they were replacing these nasty trailers with shiny new ones in two weeks.  😁. Well, that's how it goes I guess.  This was a beaut...

I can't wait to see the new ones next summer!  Maybe Terri and Gary will take a pic for us.

We went out for our final fishing attempt, then as we were coming back, we saw some tubers fall down the waterfall.  Yesterday, we stopped before the waterfall....yes, this was happening!  Curtis was too cold to float, so it was all up to Mommy.  Cole and I were the first to go.  We started at the tube drop off and floated all the way down.  I have to admit I was quite nervous when we got 20 feet up from the waterfall.

I almost bailed, but I asked Cole if he was sure he wanted to go down.  We held on and went!!!

Woohoo!!!

After Cole rode it was Carson's turn!  I was super thankful we brought their life jackets at this point.  Hold on little buddy!

Success!  He loved it!

After my ride with Carson, Cole got the courage to ride the waterfall on his own!

Way to go, COLE!!!!

I was getting pretty cold at this point....rember, this is no Guadalupe River in Texas.  It was probably 65-70 degrees outside with 60 degree water, but Carson begged for one more waterfall ride, so I bit the freezing bullet and jumped in.

We rode the waterfall, then continued down the Rio Grande to the sandy beach.  At this point, I was really freaking COLD!  We went back to the Casita for a hot shower to thaw, then went down to the cafe for all you can eat Texas BBQ!  Yum!!!!

After dinner, we hit the Wild Rose for a bit more country dancing.  Before we knew it, it was dark and we had to load up the Casita for our final road trip destination...HOME!
