Destination Carlsbad

Day 1 - Well, the goal today was to be loaded, house cleaned, dishes ran, and out the door by 6:30 am.  It took a bit longer to get the house situated than we had planned, so we departed at 7:30 am.  Not too bad if you ask me.  We drive all the way across Texas on 380, then down to 180.

Today I am thankful for this wonderful thing called XM radio.  I found an awesome 90s station and the boys were blessed with such greatness as Nirvana "Smells like Teen Spirit", Janet Jackson "Escapade", and Technotronic "Pump Up the Jam".  (You know you're singing it now, too).  If you've never driven across Texas, it's quite monotonious.  Thanks to the rain is was greener than we have ever seen it.
We stopped for a quick packed lunch at a rest stop somewhere in the middle of nowhere and pulled up to Carlsbad at 6:00 Dallas time and 5:00 pm Mountain Time.  That was just enough time to find our RV spot, prepare dinner, and head to the National Park for the Bat Flight.
We waited for an hour and a half to see the bats...unfortunately, the mommy bats were nesting, so it wasn't as impressive as the bats in August (eh, what can you do?). While we waited, the boys played a quick game of War and roamed around the Ampitheatre
After the Bat Flight, we were lucky enough to arrive on Star Gazer night and the Rangers had giant telescopes set up!  Awesome!!!!  The boys are very interested in Astronomy thanks to one of our great Den Leaders, Mr. Dustin.  He would have loved this!  They got an up close visual of Saturn and the beautiful crescent moon.
Both boys were asleep by the time we made it back to the Casita for the night.  Tomorrow's destination is hike the caverns, then off to see Grandma Mary and Grandpa Stan in El Paso for Birthday and Father's Day celebration!
