I absolutely love this place! I am so proud of our boys!!!! At our last visit, we hiked the 1.5 mile natural entrance down, but today, we hiked the natural entrance and the ENTIRE Big Room out to the bottomless pit! 3 miles of downhill cave hiking! They were the only kids on the natural hike!
The Big Room was as incredible as I remember!
It's crazy to think this land of desert and cactus was once at the bottom of the Permian Sea 250 million years ago! Just imagine the caverns we could find underneath the Pacific Ocean!!!!!
Note to self: if you visit Carlsbad Caverns in the summer, plan to arrive by 8:15 and be the first people in the caves. When we took the 700 foot elevator back up to the top, the line was out the door with hundreds of people waiting to hike! CRAZY!!! All we had to deal with were the smelly hippies we were hiking near. 😳
After our hike, we headed back to the Bat Mobile Casita (named by Carson) for a quick lunch, hitch up, and 130 mile drive to El Paso.....
Over the river and through the woods,
To Grandmother's house we go!
More like....
Over the mountains and through the cactus to Grandmother's house we go!
When we arrived, the thermometer read a scorching 106 degrees! We were so excited to be here to celebrate Father's Day AND Grandma Mary's 70th Birthday!
They have been puppy sitting Miss Cookie for our trip, and I don't know who was happier, Carson or Cookie to see each other! They have been inseparable ever since.
